Pattaya is the closest beach resort to Bangkok. While its beaches may not be the most picturesque, the beautiful island of Koh Larn lies just offshore. Pattaya also offers a wide variety of entertainment, nightlife, and dining options. To make your journey simple, we’ll guide you on the fastest, most comfortable, and most affordable ways to travel from Bangkok to Pattaya.
The distance between Bangkok and Pattaya is approximately 150 kilometers. The fastest way to travel between the two is by taxi, which costs around 33 euros and takes about an hour and a half. Alternatively, you can take a bus, which takes about two hours and costs approximately three euros.
If you’re looking to save money, the best way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya is by bus. To start your journey, head to the Ekkamai bus station (map), which is easily accessible from the city center via the BTS Skytrain, at the Ekkamai station.
Buses to Pattaya depart from Ekkamai station from 6 a.m. until midnight, with departures every hour except at 1 p.m. The journey takes about two hours. It’s a good idea to buy your ticket in advance, either at the station or on 12GoAsia, as the price is the same.
If you’re in the northern part of Bangkok and want to take the bus to Pattaya, you can also use the Mo Chit station, although the bus service from there runs less frequently. There are also bus options available from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
All buses will drop you off at the Pattaya Bus Terminal, which is conveniently located near the city center.
If you’re in a hurry and want to reach Pattaya as quickly as possible, the best option is to take a taxi. You can hail a taxi from anywhere in Bangkok and let the driver know you’re headed to Pattaya. While the driver may try to negotiate the fare, using the meter should cost you around 1,400 baht, including tolls.
This option is particularly convenient if you’re traveling with up to three other people and have minimal luggage. You can also book a taxi ride on 12GoAsia for a slightly higher price, but with added security and peace of mind.
Now that you know how to get from Bangkok to Pattaya easily, there’s no reason not to plan a trip to the coastal city, whether for a night out or a day trip to the beach.
