Are you preparing for your next trip to Hong Kong? If you want to stay always connected to the internet, take note because we’re going to explain how to get a SIM card with internet in Hong Kong so you can always be online.
In Hong Kong, you’ll find Wi-Fi in restaurants and hotels, but with everyone accustomed to constant connectivity, you’ll appreciate having reliable internet when searching for restaurants or posting photos on Instagram from the many temples this small region has to offer.
Given the cost of data plans, you’ll likely end up choosing either a local SIM card or the Hong Kong eSIM from Holafly, which offers unlimited data. Here’s everything you need to know. Let’s get started!
We used to recommend getting local SIM cards in your destination country because they were more affordable than physical SIM cards you could buy online. However, eSIMs have become very appealing.
The key change is that eSIMs now offer unlimited data (not yet available in all destinations, but coming soon to Hong Kong), making the price more justified.
With the Hong Kong eSIM, you don’t need a physical SIM card for internet access. Instead, you install a virtual card on your phone for unlimited internet. Purchase the eSIM, configure your phone automatically, and as soon as you arrive, your smartphone will connect to the internet network.
Starting today, you can get a discount on your Holafly international Hong Kong eSIM with unlimited data. The link above provides general information about Holafly, but the button below will take you directly to the discount for your eSIM purchase.
NOTE: If the discount doesn’t apply automatically (which is very rare), use this discount code: CONMOCHILA
In Hong Kong, there are four main telecom companies: Three, Csl, SmarTone, and China Mobile Hong Kong. Among them, Csl offers a prepaid SIM card for tourists that covers 5 or 8 days, depending on how long you plan to stay in Hong Kong.
We chose the 8-day plan with 5GB of data for 118 HKD (Hong Kong dollars), which is under €15. If you’re staying for fewer days, you can get the 5-day plan with 1.5GB of data for 88 HKD (just over €10). The great thing about this card is that it also works in Macau if you plan a little side trip.
It’s very easy to buy a SIM card at the airport. After picking up your luggage and heading toward the Airport Express Train to the city center, you’ll find a 1010 store on your right where you can purchase a Csl SIM card.
