If you are one of those people who usually spend long periods of time in Thailand, you may be interested in knowing that you can extend your visa by 2 months to be able to stay 30 more days in the country. Depending on where you are, there are various immigration bureaus where you must carry out this procedure. In this case, we are going to see the extension of the Thai visa in Chiang Mai, which is where we are now.
The immigration bureau is located in a shopping mall called “Promenada”, one of the most famous in Chiang Mai. You can go by tuk-tuk, taxi, or rent a motorbike and get there on your own. The map with the location is at the end of this article.
The first thing to do is to gather the documents we need to be able to do the extension, which are:
Regarding photocopies and photos, it’s okay if you don’t have them, as there is a small office right next door where you can have everything: 200 THB for pictures and 2 THB for each photocopy.
They will give you the forms right there, outside the office, where they have a table set up with some ladies who will assist you at all times.
Remember to bring a pen, and begin filling out the paperwork. They will give you the form for the extension and another one for registration, with all your details, phone number, etc.
Once you have filled out everything, you show it on the table. They will check that everything is correct and tell you to go into the office. There you will have to wait until they call you, which is usually a short time. There are chairs to sit on and air conditioning, so the wait is more pleasant.
Once they call you, you go through, pick up your passport and that’s it! It couldn’t be easier.
