As far as aesthetics are concerned, it follows the lines of Hirajiro art and not only is its design striking, it is also very beautiful. And it is no coincidence that it is considered a National Treasure of Japan, hence why it is so important to visit.

Now, let’s learn some of the most interesting facts about its history… are you ready for the visit?

History of Matsumoto Castle

Its origins date back to the Sengoku period, when it was built and named Fukashi Castle. It was Toyotomi Hideyoshi who gave the order for it to be built between 1594 and 1597.

As for the construction, it has a total of 6 floors, reaches a height of about 30 meters and is supported by two 7-meter stone walls. Since it was built on a plain (on marshy land) there are lots of very solid structures, such as long wooden planks, placed on the ground to support it.

The two watchtowers on the left wing were built in 1635. However, the most surprising thing came in 1872, when the castle was sold at auction…

One of the great peculiarities of this Matsumoto Castle is the black and white bands on its walls. With its grand and spectacular design, coupled with an elegant roof, it offers a truly visually stunning experience.
