December is one of the best months of the year to travel to Thailand: minimal rainfall is expected, with favorable temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
Low humidity levels and an average temperature of 26°C in central Thailand and Bangkok are ideal for sightseeing.
The north of the country also enjoys favorable climatic conditions for hiking in the Golden Triangle region and the Chiang Mai countryside, with temperatures slightly cooler than those of Bangkok (average temperature: 23-25°C).
Sun lovers have the option of virtually all beaches in Thailand during December, with highs of 31°C and blue skies throughout the day. The only region with rain is the south-east of the country (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Khanom), although with plenty of sunshine between showers.
Dry conditions and warm sea temperatures of the west coast make December an ideal month for diving around Phuket, Khao Lak and Krabi.
Central Thailand and Bangkok offer a perfect December holiday. Average temperatures range from a high of 30°C to 21°C, average humidity levels are 76%, and there is little to no rain during the month – ideal for sightseeing and shopping.
The eastern part of Thailand (Ko Chang and the surrounding islands) also enjoys sunshine and moderate temperatures. The south-eastern coasts (Andaman) are the best choices for a holiday, with only occasional rain and temperatures averaging around 27°C, while the Gulf coast is a little wetter with brief showers on some days.
Northern Thailand is the coolest part of the country in December, with Chang Mai experiencing nighttime temperatures as low as 15°C. Days are sunny and comfortable with little to no rain, just right for a trekking holiday.
