Temperature and Rainfall in Thailand in October

Average rainfall in Thailand during October is significantly lower than in the previous month at 250 mm, with the most noticeable difference being in the north of the country, where the southwest monsoon gives way to drier winds from the northeast of Indochina.

Chiang Mai averages 130mm of rainfall in October, low if compared with the island of Koh Samui in the south, which still experiences tropical rains with a total of 250mm, or the resort town of Phuket on the west coast with around 300mm.

Due to the wet climate, it is still Thailand’s low season for tourism, but visitors who come on vacation in October enjoy calmer conditions and consistent high temperatures of average 31°C across the country, although slightly cooler in the north, where Chiang Mai averages around 27°C.

There is also plenty of sunshine, especially in central and northern areas, as rain falls in relatively short bursts and clouds quickly disappear. Humidity levels are high, around 85%, which can make the heat uncomfortable.
