This city near the Thar Desert contains within it the ancient walled city.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bikaner<\/strong> was founded in the 15th century by Rao Bika and is one of the most important cities in Rajasthan, but less touristy than neighboring Jodhpur or Jaisalmer. Famous for its palaces, the fort and the walled city, we spent a few days there when we arrived from Delhi by train. At every corner you will find a stall with someone making the fabulous spiced milk tea, the quintessential drink of this city in the Thar Desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when-to-go-to-bikaner\">When to Go to Bikaner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>October to March is the best time to visit Bikaner. The pleasant winter months are the perfect time to explore the city as the weather is milder, with sunny days and wintry nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Winter<\/strong> (October to March): The best time to visit Bikaner is during the winter months, when temperatures are mild, between 10\u00baC and 25\u00baC. The days are sunny and dry, and the nights are cooler. It is recommended to bring some warm clothing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Summer<\/strong> (April to June): Summers in Bikaner are hot and stifling, with temperatures that can exceed 40 degrees. But be careful not to get caught in one of the famous desert sandstorms. The <strong>Jain temple of Bhandasar, or Jain Temple<\/strong> for short, was built in the 15th century by Bhandasa Oswal and is dedicated to the fifth <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tirthankara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">tirthankara<\/a><\/strong> Sumatinatha.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/templo-jaini-Bhandasar-bikaner-08-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bhandasar Jain Temple\" class=\"wp-image-12989\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bhandasar Jain Temple<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It is especially famous for its paintings, which show epic battles surrounded by floral motifs. It is worth taking a closer look at all of the details they represent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rampuri-haveli\">Rampuri Haveli<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Built in the 15th century by Balujee Chalva, in a mix of Mughal and Victorian styles, this grand red sandstone haveli <strong>greeted us after walking down a narrow street<\/strong>, dwarfing the rest and making the other small, old houses around it invisible.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/bikaner-Rampuri-haveli-1.jpg\" alt=\"Rampuri Haveli\" class=\"wp-image-12979\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/bikaner-Rampuri-haveli-1.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/bikaner-Rampuri-haveli-1-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rampuri Haveli<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Today, <strong>Rampuria, or Rampuri Haveli<\/strong>, is occupied by the Bhanwar Hotel, with ostentatious decoration resulting from the taste of its various owners, starting with the wealthy merchant who ordered its construction, belonging to the Rampuria family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gajner-palace-lake\">Gajner Palace &amp; Lake<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>About 30 minutes from Bikaner, <strong>Gajner Palace<\/strong> was built by Maharaja Ganga Singhji as a resting palace and hunting retreat in the early 20th century. Surrounded by extensive grounds and with thousands of migratory birds to spot, the palace faces a lake, a small oasis within the Thar Desert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/Bikaner-Gajnar-Palace-Lake-1.jpg\" alt=\"Gajner Palace and Lake\" class=\"wp-image-12986\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/Bikaner-Gajnar-Palace-Lake-1.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/05\/Bikaner-Gajnar-Palace-Lake-1-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Gajner Palace and Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Today, it operates as a luxury hotel with 45 rooms, where the restaurant was a former ballroom of the Maharaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lalgarh-palace\">Lalgarh Palace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1920, almost 100 years ago, Maharaja Ganga Singhji asked architect Sir Samuel Swinton to design a palace that would reflect the splendor of the period.
