The ideal approach is to find the beach that suits your needs (we\u2019ll describe them shortly) and use it as your base camp. From there, you can relax or venture out to discover the island&#8217;s beautiful landscapes, whether on land or underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margin-top-30\">We\u2019ve visited the island multiple times during our trips to Thailand and will share some tips to help you plan your visit effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-to-visit-koh-phangan\">When to Visit Koh Phangan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The climate in Koh Phangan can be broadly divided into three seasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High Season (December to April): <\/strong>This is the dry season, with excellent weather for beach enjoyment due to minimal rain. However, it\u2019s not the best time for those wishing to avoid crowds. March and April are hot and dry, so be mindful when choosing accommodation; opt for bungalows in shaded areas with good tree cover.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mid-Season (May to September):<\/strong> During these months, the monsoon hasn\u2019t fully arrived. There may be occasional rain, but the islands are still enjoyable. We&#8217;ve visited both Koh Phangan and Koh Tao during this period and can confirm that brief rain showers are often followed by sunshine. This makes it a good choice for travelers with summer vacations in Spain and who are unsure about visiting Thailand due to the monsoon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Low Season (September to December): <\/strong>This is the peak of the monsoon season, with frequent rain and storms, especially towards the end of the day. October and November are the rainiest months. The water on the beaches can be shallow due to low tides. Remember that to catch a ferry to Koh Phangan (as well as to Koh Tao and Koh Samui), you first need to get to the coastal towns of Chumphon or Surat Thani, located further south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-surat-thani-or-chumphon\">From Surat Thani or Chumphon<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you travel from Surat Thani or Chumphon, ferry companies offer combined tickets that include transportation to the port (by bus or ferry) and the boat ride itself (whether it&#8217;s a ferry, catamaran, or speedboat). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Links provided below will show different combinations, including direct pick-up from the airport if you prefer not to spend time in these cities. If you\u2019re in northern Thailand, the best option is to fly to one of these cities and then choose one of the following combinations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list bot-new\">\n<li class=\"bot-new-ferry\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/12go.asia\/en\/ferry\/surat-thani\/koh-phangan\/?z=14994&amp;sub_id=pag-EN-koh-phangan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ferry from Surat Thani<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"bot-new-ferry\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/12go.asia\/en\/travel\/chumphon\/koh-phangan\/?z=14994&amp;sub_id=pag-EN-koh-phangan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Barco desde Chumphon<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-bangkok\">From Bangkok<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By Bus:<\/strong> The simplest option if you&#8217;re in Bangkok is to buy a combined bus and boat ticket, which will take you directly to Koh Phangan. Companies like Lomprayah will even put a sticker on your shirt at departure, with different colors depending on your destination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is convenient if you don\u2019t mind traveling in a group. We\u2019ve done it a few times, and it\u2019s quite manageable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list bot-new\">\n<li class=\"bot-new-ferry\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/12go.asia\/en\/travel\/bangkok\/koh-phangan\/?z=14994&amp;sub_id=pag-EN-koh-phangan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Combined Bus + Ferry from Bangkok<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By Train:<\/strong> The railway lines reach Chumphon (going to Surat Thani from Bangkok doesn\u2019t make much sense as it\u2019s farther away). You can buy a combined ticket from Bangkok that includes the train, bus transfer to the port, and ferry to the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list bot-new\">\n<li class=\"bot-new-tren\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/12go.asia\/en\/train\/bangkok\/chumphon\/?z=14994&amp;sub_id=pag-EN-koh-phangan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Train from Bangkok<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> By plane:<\/strong> &nbsp;If you prefer flying, you can fly to Chumphon, Surat Thani, or even Koh Samui. They are separated by a rocky area, so moving between them requires traveling by road or sea, as they are not connected by sand. Both options cost the same, 100 baht per person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These beaches may not have pure white sand or crystal-clear waters, but they retain their tropical splendor, with lush vegetation visible both behind the beaches and within the accommodations. Coconut palms abound, adding to the charm!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These beaches are not typical backpacker destinations, as most visitors are those spending a few days in Thailand before moving on, but the atmosphere remains quite relaxed..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thong Nai Pan Noi<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi<\/strong> is the northern beach and slightly smaller than its sister, Thong Nai Pan Yai. However, it tends to be more crowded. Accommodations have taken over the beach, and the southern part is lined with loungers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the stretch of sand here is much narrower compared to Thong Nai Pan Yai. When there&#8217;s no <strong>Full Moon Party<\/strong>, you\u2019d never guess it\u2019s the site of the famous event.
