Despite the damage it endured during the war, it still retains the essence of an ancient oriental city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ho-chi-minh-city\">Ho Chi Minh City<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although our first visit to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/ho-chi-minh-travel-guide\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"13195\">Ho Chi Minh City<\/a><\/strong> wasn\u2019t as impressive as other parts of the country, we decided to give it a second chance and explore more of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-40.jpeg\" alt=\"Notre Dame Cathedral en Ho Chi Minh\" class=\"wp-image-2798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-40.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-40-700x467.jpeg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a large city that\u2019s changing rapidly, striving to become a key hub in Southeast Asia, much like Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vinh-moc-tunnels\">Vinh Moc Tunnels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of creating the <strong>Vinh Moc tunnel network<\/strong> came about when American forces tried to force the humble village of Vinh Moc, made up of fishermen and farmers, to leave their homes, suspecting them of supplying food and weapons to Viet Cong soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/GUIA-DE-VIAJE-VIETNAM-TUNELES-VINH-MOC.jpg\" alt=\"T\u00daNELES VINH MOC\" class=\"wp-image-39287\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Vinh Moc Tunnels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>These tunnels, like the famous <strong>Cu Chi tunnels<\/strong> near Saigon, are hidden deep in the hills. The network eventually stretched over two kilometers, divided into three levels with rooms for the inhabitants, and was even advanced enough to include maternity wards and meeting rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-da-lat\">Da Lat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Da Lat<\/strong>, with its overall atmosphere, feels quite different from the rest of Vietnam. As expected, traffic is present, but in a much more relaxed way. The streets are cleaner, and the mountains and high altitude always offer a refreshing break.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/GUIA-DE-VIAJE-VIETNAM-DALAT.jpg\" alt=\"DALAT\" class=\"wp-image-39286\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dalat<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It might resemble Sapa, though I can\u2019t say for sure because the fog didn\u2019t allow us to see much of this northern mountain resort. I\u2019ll have to settle for imagining it based on photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, when I think of Da Lat, my memory blends it with the misty hills of Ooty in India and Lake Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hoa-lu-citadel\">Hoa Lu Citadel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The third and final stop of our excursion around <strong>Ninh Binh<\/strong> brought us to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/hoa-lu-citadel-old-capital-of-vietnam\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11068\">Hoa Lu Citadel<\/a><\/strong>, the capital of Vietnam in the 10th century during the Dinh and Le dynasties. Located in a flat valley surrounded by steep limestone mountains, it created almost impenetrable barriers to human movement.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-37.jpeg\" alt=\"Paisaje alrededor de la ciudadela Hoa Lu\" class=\"wp-image-2795\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-37.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-37-700x467.jpeg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Landscape around Hoa Lu Citadel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Although little remains of its former glory, if you visit Tam Coc, you can also take advantage of seeing the structures still standing, such as a couple of temples dedicated to the dynasties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-northern-vietnam\">Northern Vietnam<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Northern Vietnam<\/strong> is a multicultural region, and as you travel through the small villages between Hanoi and Sapa, you\u2019ll encounter the various ethnic groups that inhabit these lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White Tai, Black Tai, Hmong, and Red Dao peoples live in villages such as <strong>Mai Chau<\/strong>, <strong>Moc Chau<\/strong>, D<strong>ien Bien Phu<\/strong>, and <strong>Sapa<\/strong>. It&#8217;s close to China, so you can often see traditional \u201cjunk\u201d boats with red sails sailing by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sapa\">Sapa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sapa<\/strong> is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Vietnam. It is a small town nestled between green mountains and rice terraces, surrounded by villages of various ethnic groups, such as the <strong>Black Hmong<\/strong> and the <strong>Red Dao<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people visit this mountain station hoping to trek through the valley and spend a night with a Hmong family. It offers breathtaking walks and views, making it a worthwhile stop during any tour of Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As if the atolls of Halong Bay had invaded the mainland, the massive rock formations here are surrounded by lush vegetation and rice fields, creating a unique landscape that can also be explored by boat on the Ngo Dong River.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-42.jpeg\" alt=\"TAM COC\" class=\"wp-image-2800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-42.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2024\/10\/image-42-700x467.jpeg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tam Coc<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s best to plan your visit during the season when the rice fields are green, although this isn\u2019t always possible&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cat-tien\">Cat Tien<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main reasons we visited <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/cat-tien-national-park-gibbons-in-vietnam\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11074\">Cat Tien National Park<\/a><\/strong>, located about 150 km north of Ho Chi Minh City, was undoubtedly to see gibbons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This protected area of tropical rainforest, covering 72,000 hectares, is home to an incredibly diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, bears, buffalo, lorises, macaques, and langurs. Like other Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam is relatively cheap (by European standards) and offers something for everyone, both in terms of food and accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 6-12\u20ac per night, you can find double rooms with private bathrooms almost anywhere in Vietnam, though prices may be slightly higher in beach areas.
