With a mix of French colonial houses and Buddhist temples, <strong>Vientiane<\/strong> offers all kinds of services, as well as some of the most important monuments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first time we were there, we didn&#8217;t have a pleasant memory (chapter of the travel diary: <strong>A walk through Vientiane<\/strong>), but the second time, while we were waiting for a visa, we decided to give it a chance and visit some of its temples, walk along the river, eat a lot of bread and drink a lot of wine. Here is a breakdown of the climate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dry season:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>November to February: <\/strong>This is said to be the most pleasant period of the year, with cool temperatures between 20-30\u00baC during the day, falling to 15\u00baC at night, and low humidity. The days are sunny and there is very little rain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>March to April:<\/strong> We are still in the dry season, but, during these months, temperatures rise to over 35\u00baC during the day and up to 25\u00baC at night. This is the hottest time of the year in Vientiane, with a lot of humidity but still without very frequent rains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Rainy season:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>May to October:<\/strong> In these months, after spring, the rainy season begins. Temperatures and humidity remain very high. It is reminiscent of the Parisian Arc de Triomphe, but in this case, it has four arches instead of two.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/patuxai-vientiane-03.jpg\" alt=\"The Patuxai of Vientiane\" class=\"wp-image-5833\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Patuxai of Vientiane<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>From the top, and avoiding the heat of the central hours of the day, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Vientiane, as well as see the gardens and ponds that surround it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gyg.me\/OPvfcMod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cultural Tour with Patuxai and Buddha Park<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading margin-top-0\" id=\"h-pha-that-luang\">Pha That Luang<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/pha-that-luang-important-monument-in-laos\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4586\">Pha That Luang<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cthe great stupa\u201d, is the most important monument in Laos, a symbol of the Buddhist religion and of Lao national sovereignty. It was founded in the 3rd century as a Hindu temple and later, in the 13th century, as a Khmer temple. However, it has been rebuilt several times since then.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/GUIA-DE-VIAJE-VIENTIANE-PHA-THAT-LUANG.jpg\" alt=\"Pha That Luang\" class=\"wp-image-5835\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/GUIA-DE-VIAJE-VIENTIANE-PHA-THAT-LUANG.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/GUIA-DE-VIAJE-VIENTIANE-PHA-THAT-LUANG-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> Pha That Luang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Each level of Pha That Luang has different architectural elements that summarize Buddhist architecture, with the material world being represented by its exterior part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wat-si-saket\">Wat Si Saket<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Restored in 1930, <strong>Wat Si Saket<\/strong> is a temple built in the early 19th century by the last king of Vientiane, Anouvong, and known for housing some 10,000 Buddha statues. It is said to be the only temple in the city that maintains its original construction as it survived the occupation of the Siamese army that burned the city in 1827.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"970\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/WAT-SI-SAKET-vietniane.jpg\" alt=\"WAT SI SAKET\" class=\"wp-image-5836\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wat Si Saket\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Its main building, the sim, draws attention because of its five-level roof decorated with images of Naga, deities of Buddhist culture, in the shape of a snake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-haw-phra-kaew\">Haw Phra Kaew<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just opposite to Wat Si Saket, we find the <strong>Haw Phra Kaew temple<\/strong>, one of the most venerated in Laos. It was built in 1565 as part of the royal enclosure to house the Emerald Buddha, venerated in this temple for more than 200 years and later moved to Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/HAW-PHRA-KAEW-vietniane.jpg\" alt=\"HAW PHRA KAEW\" class=\"wp-image-5837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/HAW-PHRA-KAEW-vietniane.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/HAW-PHRA-KAEW-vietniane-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Haw Phra Kaew<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The temple we see today, with its multi-tiered roof and Naga images, was rebuilt in 1942 with the help of the French government, and it is a museum of religious art where Buddhist ceremonies are no longer held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wat-si-muang\">Wat Si Muang<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is said that a pregnant young woman named Si Muang offered herself as a sacrifice to the guardian spirit of the city and jumped into the hole where a stone pillar, lak muang, was placed during the construction of this temple in Khmer times. <strong>Wat Si Muang <\/strong>is a Buddhist temple with two halls.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/WAT-SI-MUANG-vietniane.jpg\" alt=\"WAT SI MUANG\" class=\"wp-image-5839\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/WAT-SI-MUANG-vietniane.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/WAT-SI-MUANG-vietniane-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wat Si Muang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The largest of these rooms is where you can find a copy of the Emerald Buddha, to which, if you make a wish and it is granted, you must return with an offering, either food or money, and the second room, further back, is where the aforementioned pillar is wrapped in a sacred cloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-night-markets\">Night Markets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At dusk, along the Mekong, all the vendors set up their stalls in a hurry to attract as many buyers as possible at the <strong>Vientiane night market<\/strong>.
