{"id":7345,"date":"2025-03-11T08:58:55","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T07:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/?page_id=7345"},"modified":"2025-04-15T16:41:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T14:41:41","slug":"sikkim-travel-guide","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/sikkim-travel-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"Sikkim"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If there is one thing we remember about our visit to Sikkim, it is for being the state \u201cleast similar to the rest of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/india-travel-guide\/\">India<\/a><\/strong>\u201d of those we visited on our 4-month trip through the enormous Asian subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it\u2019s not only because the population density is exaggeratedly lower than in the rest of the country and almost no one looks at you, or because everything is cleaner, and crowded with Buddhist monasteries, but because the features of the people give you the impression of being in Nepal or Tibet more than in India itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is understandable because it has only been a state in India since 1975. It is also the gateway to the Nathu La Pass, which acts as a historical border for traders from China and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-to-go-to-sikkim\">When to Go to Sikkim<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sikkim is located in a mountainous region in northern India, and experiences a high-mountain subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. The climate is cool and dry, with temperatures ranging from 15\u00ba to 25\u00baC in the lower areas, and clear skies allowing us to observe the majesty of nearby mountains.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Winter (December to February)<\/strong>: Being a mountainous area, winters in Sikkim are usually cold, with temperatures ranging from 7\u00baC to 15\u00baC in the lower areas, but reaching 0\u00baC at night in the higher areas. The nearest one to Gangtok would be New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri, about 150 km away. You can also take a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.viator.com\/tours\/Pelling\/Day-Trip-to-Yuksom-Guided-Private-Sightseeing-Tour-from-Pelling\/d50858-205224P175?pid=P00039197&amp;mcid=42383&amp;medium=link&amp;campaign=EN-post-sikkim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">private full-day tour to Yuksom from Pelling<\/a><\/strong>, visiting monasteries, lakes and local markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading margin-top-0\" id=\"h-dubdi-monastery-and-gompa\">Dubdi Monastery and Gompa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dubdi Monastery,<\/strong> one of the oldest in Sikkim, is a Buddhist shrine, also called \u201cYuksom Monastery\u201d, which is accessed after a one-hour walk from Yuksom. Dubdi, \u201cThe Retreat\u201d, was built in stone in 1701 during the reign of Chogyal Namgyal, on a hilltop, and contains a number of images, symbols and manuscripts.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"930\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/guia-sikkim-Dubdi-Monastery.jpg\" alt=\"Dubdi Monastery\" class=\"wp-image-7792\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dubdi Monastery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>At the top of the roof, there is an ornate bell-shaped golden dome called Gyaltshen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-kathok-wodsalling-gompa\">Kathok Wodsalling Gompa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with the Dubdi and Ngadak Chorling monasteries, the Kathok or <strong>Kartok monastery<\/strong>, named after one of the three monks who crowned the first king of Sikkim, is one of the most important in Yuksom.
