A particularly famous destination for this is <strong>Mui Ne<\/strong>, a long stretch of coastline near a small fishing village, located 22 km east of Phan Thiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for those of us who don\u2019t surf (or haven\u2019t dared to try yet), Mui Ne is also known for its <strong>massive red sand dunes<\/strong>, located north of the village. Wanting to see them before the heat became unbearable, we set out early in the morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weather was noticeably different from previous days. We realized over breakfast at the guesthouse that it was finally time to bring out the shorts again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mui-ne\">Red Sand Dunes of Mui Ne<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-senff-sticky-block\" data-topspace=\"60\" data-cfa=\"true\" data-minwidth=\"600\" data-maxwidth=\"99999\" data-pushup=\"#final-footer\" data-zindex=\"1\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-rank-math-toc-block\" id=\"rank-math-toc\"><nav><ul><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#arriving-at-the-dunes\">Arriving at the Dunes<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#the-surroundings-of-mui-ne\">The Surroundings of Mui Ne<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#resort-destination\">Resort Destination<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#practical-information\">Practical Information<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#location\">Location<\/a><\/li><li class=\"\"><a href=\"#remember\">Remember<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:75%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"arriving-at-the-dunes\">Arriving at the Dunes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We hopped on the motorbike and covered the short distance between the beach and the red sand dunes. You can spot them from the road\u2014it almost feels as if these enormous dunes were just randomly placed there, an unexpected sight in the middle of a tropical climate zone.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-17438\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ruta-moto-vietnam-44-mui-ne-01.jpg\" alt=\"Sand dunes Mui Ne\" class=\"wp-image-17438\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The red sand dunes of Mui Ne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As soon as we parked the motorbike, children appeared out of nowhere, offering us plastic sleds to slide down the dunes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it looked fun, we politely declined and stepped into this mini desert, still in awe of the contrast between the towering sand dunes and the ocean, which was just a few kilometers to the east. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From where we stood, we could even spot fishermen\u2019s boats in the distance.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-17436\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ruta-moto-vietnam-44-mui-ne-03.jpg\" alt=\"Children of the dunes\" class=\"wp-image-17436\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Children of the dunes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Despite the popularity of the dunes, we saw surprisingly few people. Just a handful of Vietnamese families, along with the local kids who, seeing that there weren\u2019t many customers at the moment, were having fun sledding down the dunes themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also noticed groups of friends taking advantage of the picturesque scenery, posing for photos and selfies. A trend we quickly joined in on, taking plenty of silly pictures ourselves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-surroundings-of-mui-ne\">The Surroundings of Mui Ne<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The area around Mui Ne has much more to offer, including the white sand dunes, Bau Trang Lake (20 km away), a Cham tower, and the Fairy Stream, which Toni had already visited before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with the high temperatures and little motivation to ride the motorbike that day, we decided instead to head back to the beach for a drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the way, we passed through Lang Chai, the port area full of fishing boats and the traditional round Vietnamese boats known as <em>thung chai.<\/em> This time, we couldn\u2019t resist stopping to take some photos.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-17439\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conmochila.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ruta-moto-vietnam-44-mui-ne-06.jpg\" alt=\"The boats of Mui Ne\" class=\"wp-image-17439\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The boats of Mui Ne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>After having lunch near our guesthouse, we walked along the avenue parallel to the coast, hoping to find a nice stretch of beach where we could relax for a while and enjoy ourselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, we were surprised to discover that Mui Ne\u2019s several kilometers of beach were entirely occupied by hostels and resorts, making it difficult to access the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"resort-destination\">Resort Destination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We managed to find two small paths leading to the shore\u2014one took us to a narrow strip of beach with barely any sand, while the other led to an area completely taken over by kitesurfers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our excitement was short-lived; Mui Ne was not going to be the beach destination we had imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, during our day and a half stay, we spent most of the time updating the blog, sipping beers, and taking short walks to find something to eat.
