If you’re planning to travel to Cambodia and need internet access on your mobile, you’ll be pleased to know that you can either get a SIM card with internet in Cambodia or opt for the eSIM, the new Holafly card that offers 24/7 internet access at a reasonable price. Let’s go into it!
While it’s true that you can find Wi-Fi in restaurants and hotels, staying continuously connected is essential in today’s world. Given the current data rates, you’ll likely end up choosing either a local SIM or the Cambodia eSIM, the new Holafly card with unlimited data. Here’s everything you need to know!
We used to always recommend getting a local SIM in Cambodia, as it was more economical than physical SIM cards available on certain websites. However, nowadays, the eSIM option has become very appealing.
The key reason for this shift is that eSIMs now offer unlimited data (though not yet available in all destinations), making this option much more attractive and a more justified price.
With the Cambodia eSIM, you don’t need a physical SIM card to access the internet. Instead, you install a virtual card on your phone for seamless connectivity. You simply make the purchase, automatically configure your phone, and as soon as you arrive at your destination, your smartphone will connect to the internet.
Starting today, you can get a Holafly discount for your international Cambodia eSIM with a small saving. The previous link provides general information about Holafly, but the button below will take you directly to the discount for your eSIM card purchase.
NOTE: If for any reason the discount isn’t applied automatically (which is very rare) you can use this discount code: CONMOCHILA.
Cambodia has five mobile operators: Metfone, Smart, Cellcard, QB, and Seatel. We opted for Metfone because it is the biggest and appears to have the best coverage, offering 4G in many parts of the country. The price differences between companies are minimal, so they don’t significantly affect your choice.
The easiest place to buy a SIM card is at Phnom Penh Airport. After collecting your luggage and walking through the international arrival’s corridor, you’ll see several small booths offering currency exchange services and the main phone companies.
If you don’t have US dollars to pay, you can turn left, where these offices have a counter at the back with ATMs (check information on Cambodia’s currency to choose ATMs that don’t charge a fee).
Once there, you can choose the data plan you want. No passport is required; simply hand over your phone, and they’ll insert the SIM card, activate the plan, and you’re all set!

If you enter Cambodia through another airport or by land, you can always get a SIM card at any official Metfone store (we’ve visited one in Phnom Penh this year and one in Siem Reap in previous years) or at small shops throughout the country, though they might charge you more.
