If you often spend long periods in Thailand, you might want to know that you can make an extension of your 2 months visa to get 30 extra days in the country. Depending on the place you are, there’re several immigration offices to carry out this procedure. In this case, we’ll take a look at the Visa Extension Thailand in Chiang Mai, which is where we’re now.
Visa Extension Thailand in Chiang Mai
1. Immigration offices in Chiang Mai
Immigration offices are in a shopping centre called “Promenada”, one of the best-known in Chiang Mai. You can go by tuk-tuk or taxi, or rent a bike and get there on your own. We leave the map showing the location at the end of the article.
2. Required documentation
The first thing is to gather the required documents for the extension, namely:
- Original passport
- 2 passport-sized photos
- Copies of your visa and leaving card from the country
- Extension visa form
- Citizen registration form
- Fee payment (1,900 THB)
On the issue of copies and photos, nothing happens if you don’t have them. There’s a small office next to it, where you can do it all: 200 THB photos and 2 THB per copy.
Forms are handled outside the office. They have a desk with some ladies attending you at all times.
3. Filling out forms
Remember to bring a pen and start with the paperwork. You’ll be given an extension form and another one for registration, including all your data, phone, etc.
4. Pick up the passport with the extension
Once all filled out, show it in the desk and they’ll check if everything’s correct. Then, you’ll be told to go inside the offices. There you’ll have to wait to be called, usually in a short time. There’re chairs to sit down and air conditioning, so waiting becomes more enjoyable.
When called, get in and pick up your passport. Done! Easy peasy 😉
